The morning is one of the best times of day to engage with mindful practices - you get to begin your morning being with you, creating space for yourself and starting your day with your mind in the right space.
Try to wake up just a little bit early to begin everyday with a few simple mindful practices. You only need 30 minutes for the following, I guarantee it will have a powerful impact on your entire day.
STEP ONE - MAKE A COZY DRINK - (5 MINUTES)
Make your favorite cup of tea/coffee/hot water with lemon and find the most cozy corner of your home to write. Find and create a space that feels special to you.
STEP TWO - 10 MINUTES OF WRITING
Use a timer and start with 5 minutes ofa “brain dump” / free form writing. Just get words on a page, even if they don't make sense.
After the five minutes, pause to check in with yourself and see if there is anything you need in this moment. Write it down. My teacher taught me a trick called “PIES”. You check in with your Physical self, your Intellectual self, your Emotional self and your Spiritual self. Pause and ask them individually exactly what they need today in this moment and write it down.
Lastly I finish with writing down 3 things I am grateful for THAT DAY. The key is write new things each day to remind yourself how many gifts each days brings.
STEP THREE - WAKE UP THE BODY - (10 MINUTES)
Pull out your yoga mat and do 5 to 10 minutes of light yoga stretching. Really focus on your breathing. These movements can be gentle, sometimes it's as simple as child's pose, down dog, cat cow, simple twists or some sun salutations. This allows you to align your mind, body and breath.
STEP FOUR - MEDITATION - (5 MINUTES)
I try to never skip out on my morning meditation. Even if you can only get 5 minutes in, its worth it. I personally use a timer app calledInsight Timer. Feel free to be relaxed, lay down, sit on the couch, get comfortable and simply focus on your breath. It's okay if you have thoughts, just try not to allow them to consume you.
