Recently I was reminded of a quote I love from a spiritual teacher of mine named Manorma and it goes like this:
"You are the only person that is going to be alongside you for the entire journey of life, so you must learn how to hold your own hand."
This quote has brought me comfort over the past few weeks because it is an honest reminder that now, more than ever, we have to learn how to be there for ourselves. We have to learn how to be our own support, best friend and confidant. Now is when our self-care routines are no longer a luxury, but a non-negotiable part of the day.
If we want to get through this time with strength, release our frustrations and most importantly be able to show up whole-heartedly for others we HAVE to develop and sustain our relationship with ourselves.
So please, be your own best friend. Hold your own hand and truly honor your needs in a way you never have before - I believe it's the most powerful tool we have readily available to us - at all times, but especially through this turbulent climate.
I am personally most motivated to take care of myself by keeping the perspective of how fully I know I can show up for others when I show up fully for myself. I have more patience, compassion and bandwidth to be thoughtful and generous. To me, this is a gift that permeates far beyond my personal experience. Which made me realize, The world needs me to take care of me - and the same goes for you.
